Europe is among the global leaders in wind energy technology accounting for more than 70% of all wind power installed in the world. However, the end of life of wind turbine blades poses some environmental problems: Nowadays, most of this end-of-life composite is landfilled or incinerated Indeed, the recycling of end-of-life composites is challenging due to the heterogeneity of the material and the strong adhesion between the fibre and the polymer.

The European project EoLO HUBS “Wind turbine blades End of Life through Open HUBs for circular materials in sustainable business models” has the ambition to recover glass and carbon fibre from wind turbine blades at the end of their useful lives and create a knowledge hub to facilitate the recycling.
